Thirsty?

Harvested from the garden.

Washed and dried.

Mashed.

Simmering with a side of mashing.

Cooked for 15 minutes.

Pouring through cheesecloth.

Straining overnight.

Chilling and straining.

Chilled and strained.

Ready.

Cheers!

After harvesting, washing, mashing, cooking and straining the grapes, I poured it into a wine glass with a splash of sparkling water.

Paired with a hot bowl of potato/corn/sausage/kale soup, I don't think I've ever had a more satisfying drink. It is thicker, richer and more grape-y than any other juice I've ever had. It is fantastic. It is thicker, richer and more grape-y than any other juice I've ever had. It is fantastic.

If you come over in the next couple days, I might let you have a sip. But you'll want to hurry.

HEY! This is so neat, Anne!!!!! I am impressed with your dedication to the process!

The only grape juice I drink is communion (because I am not a fan) - but how does the real stuff compare? Is there ANY similarity between the two, or is the homemade stuff crazy different/good?

ALSO:
not a fan of GRAPE juice... i do in fact consider myself a great fan of communion. :)

This juice is unbelievable. Have you ever had a concord grape? They are much sweeter than your standard grocery grape. They are fruit candy. This juice? Candy in a cup. With antioxidants to boot.

I wish I could mail you some, Jean! Can you imagine how my vine will be in three years!? Crazy.

Soup is super easy. (hee hee) Milk base, some flour, cooked potatoes, ham or sausage, corn or peas, kale, onions, simmer for a while. I also used a packet of cheese soup mix, but I usually just throw cheese in at the end. Good warm tummy meal!

That looks delish! Was the end product worth all the work?

We've tried growing some grape vines here but to no avail. My hubby dreams of having a mini-vineyard... but I guess he'll have to move somewhere else to get that :)

Cheeky, it was SO worth it. And really, it wasn't that much work. It was more tedious to take the pictures than to actually make the juice!!

I guess it's a bit too cold there, huh Carbon? I'm surprised mine did as well as they did and it only took four years!
