Solitary

Everyone is now in their own little room. It is kitty boot camp around here. We are training, people! Training! Treats, food, water with calming drops, and fresh personal litter boxes for each.

Cammie refused to pose. But this is her own personal eating area in the library. She can brush up on her French during lunch.

Iggy gets the bathroom. And an enormous box. But he really seems to like it. That or he really likes the nip I spread over his rug. Whatever.

Clara, of course, gets the sweet, pink, feminine room. She sits happily on her little chair and looks out the window at the world going by.

We take them out now and then to socialize with us and with each other. Apparently, in just one night they have forgotten that they have known each other for years. "Who is this new cat in my house!? I've never seen her before! Must pronounce my seniority! HIISSSSSS!!" Sigh. This training is going to be a pain.

Their sad little cries from under the doors make my heart break. But we will have a calm household, a clean household, a happy-kitty-cuddly household. As God as my witness, I'll never smell cat pee again!!

Good grief.. good luck with that! We are going through some kitty issues too. Our younger one, Houdini, has been getting into fights with a neighborhood cat and one the other night was so bad that he got a nasty deep puncture wound at the base of his ear and was bleeding. So he had to go to the vet and get cleaned up and get some anti-biotics. He's fine, but we are thinkin of giving him up to Katie's parents cause they live way out in the country and he would have more room to roam without runnin into other cats. He also tries to pick fights with our older cat a lot too, but at least he isn't viscious.. just antagonizes all the time! But nonetheless, we are dealing with the sad reality that he might have to go :(

Thanks Shawn. I think I have to have that in the back of my mind. It will really suck, but there may not be any other options for some of them. Sigh.

Wow, that seems like a LOT of work. I can't even begin to imagine having to clean 3 kitty litters. Yuck. I hope it all works out soon for you all.

Wow Anne...I'd hate to point out how it appears that the cats have become more work than children ;) This is great behavior modification training experience anyway. Hope it works!

It feels like it too, Shelly. Sheesh. They are not usually this much work. They're supposed to just sit and purr.

Wow. Seems like you have your hands full. So they just one day started to fight after a period of time in which they happily socialized together?

I hope the training is going well. And that the cats are all getting along again.

They aren't really fighting so much as when we let them all out together (which has only been once so far) they hiss at each other as if they are new cats they've never seen.

I've never claimed they are smart kitties... :)

So far I think the training is going well, there have been no accidents in any of the rooms. However, they aren't coming out for a while just to be safe! At least another week or two...

i'm catching up....bare with me on all these "old" posts.

are the kitties still in confinement??

They are indeed. Everyone to his or her own room. Right at the moment the girls have freetime for a little while. And we are thinking about moving them to the basement together for a few days so they get used to where the litter boxes "actually" belong. Iggy still gets a few more days in his own room before we'll move him down there also.

You're going to have your kids potty trained in no time flat when that time comes in your life. :) hehe

Good call. Just lock the kid in a room until they learn how to use the potty...
