Ask Anything

If you haven't noticed yet, I have added a new sidebar and new items on the sidebar to the left.

My recommendations in all forms of media will be forthcoming...but first I'd like to kick off this lovely advice column. I have a very random wealth of knowledge. Health, Budgeting, Gardening, Religion, Dating, Relationships, Animals, History, Music, Movies/TV, etc. And things I don't know, I can very easily find out. I have my sourches.

So, need advice? Have a general question? Ask away and I will be sure to solve the problem! Or at least make a really valient effort at doing so. Post a question here and we'll see what the magic eight ball comes up with!

What is a "snow squall"???

I know it's after Christmas, but why do we "hang stockings by the fire with care"? Why stockings and why the mantel?

Hi Anne.
Here's my first question. I want to know all about hippopotamuses. First, how do you spell hippopotamus? What do they eat? How long do they live? Where do they live? What do they do for fun?

My next question is about cats. First of all, is purring a voluntary or involuntary action? Sometimes I think with Hobbes it is involuntary, but with Chloe, totally voluntary.

My second question is about hairballs. Where do they come from!? Where do the cats store all of that hair and why?

Thank you all knowledgable one.

Oooh...this will be a good one! :)

Okay here is a question....where did you find the cute cat graphic for your site? Did you create her? I am looking to add a graphic to my banner, and I would like to have an orange striped cat drinking coffee or riding in a hot air balloon. But I don't know where to begin.

What I want to know is this. If I'm sitting inside, in the rays of the sun, I get all warmed up, tired, feel cozy and want to take a nap. But the sun is not melting the snow. I understand that the air is cold and all that, but why is it warm inside, but not outside when it's the same sun? Why don't the snowmen melt, like Frosty? Is it because the sun is SOOO far away?

Here's a question: What is the cheapest and most effective way to ship a kitty (namely one named Teva) from Penn. to GR?

The Bring Teva Home Foundation thanks you for your efforts.

Okay...here's my question...how does Anne end up with her own dressing room? I guess this question comes from more envy than actual curiosity, but I would like to know if it was an actual room or more of an old closet, etc.
Thanks! I'm thinking that maybe we could turn one of our 5 bedrooms in our new house into a room that's all about me! :)

New Question: Where does pollen come from??

Why do people put those sherriff stars on the back of their cars?

anne said...

Lisa, can I get a little more info? What do these stickers look like? I'm not familiar with said "sheriff sticker."

lisa said...

I asked my neighbor and she told me the deputies will call you up and ask for a donation to their charity and if you send them enough money they will send you a decal. I recently moved to this small town and I noticed that about half the cars had these stickers displayed. I think I have it figured out, but it seems dishonest to me.

anne said...

That does seem rather shady. Advertising inadvertently. Hmmm. But I guess that is a small town thing too.

Congrats on a new move! Welcome to the neighborhood!! :)

I was thinking this morning, as I ate a piece of apple pie for breakfast, about how apple pie is supposed to be the quintessential hallmark of classic americana. But, is apple pie really an American invention? I mean, it, along w/ baseball, is the underpinning of our fair country but what if it's not even an American-based pastry!? Is it possible that it's a direct derivative of Apple Streudel, (which is so German, we dare not associate w/ it)?

So, if you have time, I'd like to know more about the ethnic roots of apple pie please :)

My wonderful husband bought me a beautiful orchid while I was away, but I have absolutely no idea how to care for it!

How do I keep my lovely orchid alive and strong?

This is a two-part question:

Why do cats eat grass (esp. b/c they/she just throw it up)?

Will my cat stop eating grass if she gets used to being outside?

Love Your Blog! I have a question about wood porches. My current porch is cement and I wanted to extend it by adding wood. Can the wood porch extension be covered by indoor/outdoor carpet?

Really sorry to do this here dear...but I can't get my email to work...ugh......you're welcome to delete this post after you've read it.

Im asking all my favourite bloggers to go have a look at my latest post (my new site...not the blogger one) and, if they feel moved or have the time and/or space on their own blog...to blog a link to the story...to do so.

My sister is part of the Crew. Carolynn is one of her close friends...and they usually have until the fall to raise money. This year they just have until the end of June.

I'm trying to help the best way I know how....
