Why does Anne have her own Dressing Room?

A dear friend whom I have known for so very long has asked a splendid question. I have wondered this before myself. And I know this has been discussed before a bit, but the question has been asked and I must answer.

Well, the first portion of this answer is that obviously, she must deserve it. Ok. I don't really think I deserve it. I have been overly blessed with my living space in so many places I have lived that I am truly overwhelmed.

I have had my own beautiful dressing room practically since I've been married. In our first apartment, Hubby's sister lived with us for a while and then when she moved out, I redid that spare room into my room. Those are all the pictures you see here. It was my Victoria's Secret room. I loved it. I made new pillows, covers for my wicker furniture and meticulously painted the striped walls. Sadly, when we moved out, our landlady (the one who lives with us now) repainted it a more sellable khaki color. Practical... Sheesh.

Hubby's only requirement as far as rooms go is that he gets a studio and then I can do whatever I wish with the rest of the house.

Our current place is enormous. Or at least I think it is. It was listed with five bedrooms and I would say we now have six since the attic is finished. One room is the studio, one is our bedroom, a spare bedroom, a library, and my dressing room. Someday I am sure I will have to give it up, but I am enjoying every moment of it until then. And again, like I said, I am extremely blessed to have my home.

This week I am even having a girls tea party. And it won't be the first nor the last!

Tonight, one of my projects is turning a shadow box into a jewelry box to hang on the wall in here. I'll be sure to post a picture of how it turns out!

So, my friend, you can absolutely turn one of your five rooms into a "Just for B" room. In fact, you must. You can paint it however you like, hang pictures that are your favorites and have a place that is your own personal retreat. Whenever you feel like you need to get away, this will be where you are renewed and recharged! And be sure to send us pictures when you do!

This last picture is my current room. I went a little bit tamer than the previous room. It's only two shades of pale pink. But I love it just as much!

Thanks for answering my question, Anne! I did see the last picture around Valentine's day when you showed the vase of flowers, but I didn't know you had one in your previous apartment. I guess you get to have some extra rooms when you don't have kids yet! :) Our new house will have the MB, Hannah's room, a spare room (finally company doesn't have to sleep on an air matress) and a nursery. The fifth room Brandon has said can be my scrapbooking room, but must include the office stuff as well. But I may just take your advice to heart and at least carve out a place that can be all mine and be a retreat away from those that would seek to destroy my sanity! :) I miss you Anne!

I got the last rooms' idea from a Trading Spaces episode and just had to run with it.

I think everyone is trying to destroy sanity nowadays... :)

I miss you too, Beck. When are you planning on visiting Michigan?

BeckyD said...

Just as soon as you come to visit SC! :) Actually it would be neat to come visit you...the only problem is now I would have to bring a 2 yr. old with me...we wouldn't want to impose. I did mention to Shelly last summer when she, Shannon, Jen and I all got together at BBCA graduation time that since she was thinking we all ought to go on a trip together that you should all come down to SC and bunk at my house and site see the area, spend days at the beaches and go up to Myrtle Beach to the outlets!

That would be much more practical than the Cancun trip she was thinking of!!! I think I would be up for that.

As fun as her trip would be, I don't know that it's doable for most of us.

And of course, I don't have a spare room right now with my additional rentor. So I am back to having company on the air mattress! But you are welcome to it any time. :)

I'm sure that Jen and Shannon would be pleased to hear that you don't think it's doable either. I must say that as much as I love all you guys, if I get a chance to go to the Caribbean or any place else romantic, I would rather it be with my husband first! We have actually talked about going to a Sandals resort to celebrate our fifth anniversary. But since we both burn like crazy we'd end up going in the winter anyway! If I'm in NY for any length of time during Brandon's 120 day deployment this summer, I may drive over to Michigan for a few days. I could probably even leave Hannah at the Grandparents and they wouldn't mind. But she hasn't even met you yet! Oh well, maybe one day our paths may cross in NY again. But I may just do the trip by myself to see you for the weekend or something.

I am also glad I'm not the only one!! I tried to argue the point about wanting to go somewhere like that with only my hubby, but didn't get very far. I love Shelly, but...
And to be completely honest, it's hard to make that much of a financial commitment when we haven't all seen each other in so long. How do we know that we'll be able to put up with each other (and each other's husbands) for a whole week on an island where we can't get away? :)

I don't know for sure what we're doing for our 5 year this year. We had talked about Italy, but may end up putting the money into the houee. I know, how boring is that?!

Yes, I am officially an old fuddy-duddy. Sigh.

I know what you mean...my hubby will probably hit at least Germany near our 5 yr., but he just won't have me with him! He'll definitely be a world traveler by the time he gets home at the end of the summer. And this is just the beginning of the next 16 years of our life!

seriously. I need one of those.

And I need you to come and paint stripes in my house.

I know, don't you love it? I loved that room...

Wow, I can't believe all the effort that probably went into painting stripes. But it looks amazing. Both current and previous :) Yes, you are quite the girly girl with your boudouir :) (I don't know if I spelled that right? Hope ya know what i mean!)

It wasn't really that bad. We taped off one section and painted the white and dark pink, then taped it off again and painted the light pink. Then finished that with think black tape at the edges of the dark pink.
The fourth wall we just did solid so as not to be overwhelmed with stripes. If you looked in the windows from outside, it looked like the room was glowing... hee hee...

You make me sad and jealous. :) I'm going to go kick the girls out of their room and make it MINE. ~sigh~ I LOVE the stripes, you did a great job and the vanity is awesome.

:0) Love the girly girl stuff.

I do love my vanity. I got it when I was sixteen and it was dark brown. When I decided to have my own dressing room and paint and all that, I figured the vanity needed a bit of an update also, so I painted it white, distressed it, and got new hardware for it.

It is a huge piece of furniture and will likely stay in my family for a long time!

ahh..the pink striped room. That seems like ages ago since we sat in there eating cake. I do love the new pink room though too. They have both been totally you :) Can't wait to see your shadow jewlery box!! :) I shall miss tea tomorrow night though ;(
